- 1½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cocoa powder (sifted if lumpy)
- ⅓ cup crushed peppermint candies
- Optional: ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
- ¾ cup maple syrup (if giving along with quart jar)
Instructions
For Each Quart Jar:
- Add the flour to the quart jar. A large canning funnel makes this a lot easier. The flour will almost fill the jar initially – tamp the jar down onto the counter a number of times to settle the flour to about ¾ of the jar.
- Add the baking powder and salt. Add the cocoa powder and tamp the jar to settle it.
- Add the crushed peppermint. If you’d like to add chocolate chips, add them to the top (they will probably fill almost to the rim).
- Attach lid and tie with ribbon and printed recipe tag.
For Jar of Syrup:
- Pour the maple syrup into the small half-pint jar, if using. Seal with a leakproof lid and give along with the quart jar of dry ingredients.
Notes
*Spelt flour also works. For a gluten-free option, oat flour should work but I haven’t tried it yet, so bake up a half batch before gifting to see for sure!
