The Reed House: Manzanita Oregon’s Ultimate Beach Rental for Unforgettable Group Stays

The Reed House in Manzanita Oregon

Prepare to be captivated! We are thrilled to finally share our recent discovery: an extraordinary Manzanita Oregon vacation rental that has redefined our expectations for beach getaways. This isn’t just any rental; it’s a meticulously renovated historic home, designed with passion and an unparalleled eye for detail. If you appreciate the charm of cottage-farmhouse aesthetics, the character of salvaged materials, and the beauty of perfectly imperfect design, then the Reed House is a destination you simply must experience. It’s a true gem that marries salvaged vintage treasures with modern comforts, offering an exceptional stay for up to 20 guests.

Unlike many standard beach rentals often filled with generic decor and mismatched furniture, the Reed House stands out. Its style effortlessly aligns with the currently popular ‘Fixer-Upper’ aesthetic, but with an authentic history and a deep love for detail woven into every corner. This is not merely a place to stay; it’s an experience crafted with care, promising an escape that feels both luxurious and genuinely homely.

Reed House-Manzanita Oregon beach access

Our journey to this incredible property began when Kim, the visionary owner behind The Houses on Manzanita Beach, reached out. From the moment we saw this inspiring video showcasing her properties, we knew these were special places, destined to be cherished by those who appreciate thoughtful design and a genuine connection to their surroundings.

The Houses on Manzanita Beach offer three distinct rentals, accommodating groups from 8 to 20, all thoughtfully priced for their prime location along Manzanita’s stunning seven-mile stretch of coastline. Whether you’re planning a large family reunion or a memorable getaway with friends, splitting the cost makes these luxurious homes incredibly accessible. While one house boasts direct beach access, all properties provide convenient access across a quiet neighborhood road, each offering breathtaking ocean vistas that truly define the Manzanita experience.

View from the deck at the Reed House at Manzanita Oregon

During our visit, we had the immense pleasure of staying at the historic Reed House, a property recently revitalized by Kim and her husband. To call it “incredible” would be an understatement. From the moment you step onto the expansive deck, the panoramic ocean views take your breath away. This particular stretch of Manzanita Beach is magnificent, offering a captivating vista regardless of the weather. We were fortunate to capture these photos on a sunny day, knowing from the forecast that rain was on its way – but even under a moody sky, the scenery remains profoundly beautiful and serene.

Kim describes the renovation of the Reed House as a “labor of love,” and every element of the home vividly reflects this sentiment. Nearly every part of the house has been meticulously touched and updated, with a strong emphasis on salvaging and reusing original materials wherever feasible. This commitment to sustainability and historical preservation is evident in the charming details: an eclectic mix of salvaged sinks, new wood carefully chosen to complement the old, antique art pieces that tell their own stories, and a truly unique assortment of light fixtures that illuminate each space with warmth and character. Each salvaged piece adds depth and narrative, ensuring the Reed House is not just a rental, but a living piece of Manzanita’s rich history.

While words can convey much, the true essence of the Reed House is best captured through its imagery. We’ve gathered an extensive collection of photographs to tell the story of this remarkable home. Although we couldn’t fit every single shot into this post (we even had to split it into two parts!), you can find even more exclusive content by following us on Instagram. Now, let’s embark on a visual tour, allowing the stunning details of the Reed House to speak for themselves.

Historic Reed House: A Journey Through Thoughtful Design

Stepping into the lower level of the Reed House, you immediately sense that you’re in for a special experience. The attention to detail is evident from the first glance: crisp white shiplap walls, beautifully restored salvaged doors, and original beadboard paneling create an inviting atmosphere. This initial impression sets the stage for the rest of the home, building anticipation for the charm and unique character that awaits at the top of the grand staircase. It’s a subtle nod to the past, blended seamlessly with contemporary comfort, promising a truly memorable stay.

Ascending the elegant open stairwell, illuminated by a fantastic, carefully chosen light fixture, you arrive at the heart of the Reed House: a truly enormous open great room. This magnificent space is designed to make you never want to leave, boasting incredible panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. If you’ve ever vacationed with a large group, including children and pets, you know how quickly spaces can feel cramped. That’s simply not an issue here. The great room offers multiple distinct areas for sitting, relaxing, engaging in conversation, reading a book, or enjoying a meal. There’s ample room for everyone to spread out, find their own comfortable nook, and truly unwind, ensuring a harmonious group dynamic.

This grand space truly highlights Kim’s personal touch and deep understanding of group travel needs. Having organized many family reunions herself, she prioritized creating abundant spaces where different age groups could comfortably gather or find quiet moments. Equally important were the practical considerations: the Reed House impressively features five full bathrooms and a comprehensively stocked kitchen, addressing common pain points for large groups. This foresight ensures that every guest enjoys comfort and convenience, transforming a potentially chaotic group stay into a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Beyond the sheer spaciousness, the great room is filled with delightful, thoughtful touches that elevate its ambiance and character:

  • A magnificent original working stone fireplace provides a cozy focal point, perfect for cool coastal evenings.
  • A charming vintage telephone ‘booth,’ complete with a salvaged payphone that operates as a regular local phone (no coins needed!), adds a whimsical, historical element and a unique conversation starter.
  • A harmonious blend of salvaged wood ceilings, original beadboard walls, and newly installed pine walls creates a rich texture, showcasing the beauty of natural materials and the skilled craftsmanship that brought them together.

The main level further extends its offerings with a luxurious master bedroom featuring a king-sized bed and a flat-screen TV, a well-appointed master bath, an additional comfortable queen bedroom, and a generously sized main bathroom, ensuring comfort and privacy for guests on this floor.

One particularly admired feature is the elegant set of French doors, which not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also frame a captivating view. Just inside, a brilliantly designed tile entry ‘rug’ offers both stunning visual appeal and practical functionality. This durable, stylish surface provides an ideal spot to remove wet or sandy shoes, perfectly preserving the beauty and integrity of the reclaimed fir floor throughout the rest of the living area. It’s a testament to the thoughtful blend of beauty and utility found throughout the Reed House.

Ascending to the third floor reveals a delightful and cozy retreat under the eaves. Here, you’ll discover a quaint sitting area perfect for quiet contemplation, complete with another television and an extensive collection of books to suit every taste. This level thoughtfully accommodates guests with three additional bedrooms and two charming bathrooms, which truly deserve their own spotlight (more on them in the bathroom section below!). Two of the bedrooms each feature a comfortable queen bed, while the third bedroom offers a unique experience with two built-in queen beds nestled snugly under the eaves, featuring a picturesque dormer window that frames magnificent ocean views. Imagine the joy of waking up to the sound of waves and a stunning coastal vista.

Adding to the house’s enchanting character, a vintage grate in the floor allows for playful communication between the third floor and the main level—a detail sure to be a hit with younger guests. It’s these sweet, unexpected touches that truly set the Reed House apart, creating an environment rich with discovery and charm.

The Engaging Lower Level: Entertainment Hub & Bunk Rooms

The Reed House lower level rooms

The lower level of the Reed House serves as the primary entry point and a vibrant hub of entertainment. Far from a typical basement, this space is thoughtfully designed to be a popular hangout spot for guests of all ages. It features a dedicated media room for movie nights, along with both pool and ping-pong tables for friendly competitions and hours of fun. This level also ingeniously houses two bunk rooms, each comfortably sleeping four guests, ensuring plenty of space for larger groups or children. An additional, delightfully designed bathroom on this floor adds to the convenience and comfort. With a total of seven bedrooms and five baths spread across the property, the Reed House guarantees that everyone enjoys their own personal space, eliminating the need for anyone to sleep on a couch—a true luxury for any large group vacation.

The Gourmet Kitchen: Culinary Delights for Twenty

The Reed House Kitchen

The kitchen at the Reed House is a masterclass in both aesthetics and functionality, perfectly equipped to handle the culinary needs of large groups. Anchored by a stunning honed marble tile backsplash—a true labor of love personally crafted by Kim herself (she actually bought standard shiny 12×12″ tiles, cut them in half, and then meticulously sanded each one to achieve the matte, honed finish!)—the kitchen features luxurious granite counters, two ovens, and a professional-grade 6-burner stove. Preparing meals for twenty guests here is not just feasible, it’s a pleasure, ensuring that even the most ambitious family reunion feasts can be effortlessly created and enjoyed.

The Reed House Kitchen vintage sink

This kitchen is designed for collaboration and enjoyment, even during clean-up. Imagine having two, even four, people helping out simultaneously, each with their own faucet at the impressive vintage sink and a dishwasher conveniently located nearby. And here’s a truly special touch: the vintage sink boasts a captivating view down the beach. This thoughtful design means no one is “stuck in the back cleaning up while everyone else has fun.” Instead, even chores become an opportunity to enjoy the stunning Manzanita coastal scenery, turning a routine task into a moment of shared beauty and connection.

The Reed House kitchen supplies

Say goodbye to the common frustration of arriving at a vacation rental only to find essential kitchen items missing. We’ve all been there, planning a grand meal for a family reunion, only to realize there aren’t enough 13×9″ pans or large pasta pots (a frequent challenge in our experience!). At the Reed House, this simply isn’t an issue. The kitchen is meticulously stocked with every imaginable utensil, pot, pan, and dish, ensuring you have everything you need to cook and serve with ease, making meal preparation a stress-free part of your Manzanita Oregon beach vacation.

The Bathrooms: Uniquely Designed Sanctuaries

While the kitchen is undoubtedly impressive, the bathrooms at the Reed House truly stole our hearts. Each of the five bathrooms is a masterpiece of individual design, offering a unique blend of functionality, charm, and unexpected delights. It was genuinely astonishing to see how distinct and character-filled each space was, yet all maintained a high standard of usability and comfort, revealing fun new details upon every visit.

The Reed House Master Bath with barn door

The master bath exemplifies this thoughtful design, featuring a stylish sliding barn door that adds a rustic yet refined touch—a detail that confirms Kim truly considered everything. Many of the bathrooms boast more of her hand-honed marble tiles on luxurious radiant-heat floors, ensuring wonderfully toasty toes even on cooler mornings. Kim has also expertly incorporated vibrant and colorful wall tiles into several rooms, like the beautiful Moroccan-style tile in rich browns and blues seen here, adding an artistic flair and unique personality to each space.

The main floor bath at The Reed House at Manzanita Beach

If pressed to choose, this main floor bath might just be our favorite. We adore the clean, bright white walls, the elegant double wall-hung sink, and the playful yet sophisticated light fixtures. The shiplap wall behind the sink clearly showcases its original character, with new pine carefully crafted to seamlessly extend this timeless aesthetic. This blend happily meets more of the stunning Moroccan tile, this time in a contemporary palette of gray and tan, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.

This room sparked so many design ideas for us: the inventive use of industrial piping for the towel and toilet paper holders, the expansive mirror that enhances the sense of space, the unique light fixtures, and that exquisite antique photo. The photograph depicts Manzanita Beach in the early 1900s, precisely where the house now stands, but with the coastline largely undeveloped. These historical touches are truly captivating and add immense depth to the overall experience.

The Reed House upstairs twin baths

On the third floor, not one, but two bathrooms stand as delightful examples of clever design, and arguably, they win the “adorable prize.” These ‘twin’ baths, while sharing repeating design elements, each feature unique fixtures and demonstrate an ingenious use of space. Why settle for one when you can have two distinct, charming spaces? This thoughtful arrangement significantly enhances comfort and convenience for larger groups staying on this level.

Vintage Style baths at The Reed House

Observe the captivating details: slanted, wood-covered walls meeting elegant herringbone blue tiles, complemented by more of the exquisite marble flooring. Each bath features fun, distinct sinks and mirrors, adding to their individual charm. One offers the luxurious experience of a clawfoot tub, perfect for a relaxing soak, while the other provides a spacious stand-in shower for quick refreshment. This variety ensures that every guest can find a bathing experience perfectly suited to their preference, further enhancing the personalized feel of the Reed House.

The Reed House lower vintage stye bathroom

And then there’s the lower-level bathroom, which is anything but a typical basement space. Here, classic subway tile harmoniously meets rustic shiplap, creating an unexpectedly chic and inviting atmosphere. Frankly, it’s impossible to choose a favorite among these five unique sanctuaries; each one possesses its own undeniable charm. If we could have just one of these in our own home, we’d be absolutely delighted. Their distinctive designs certainly inspire the hunt for salvaged sinks, vintage mirrors, and antique cabinets for future home projects!

As we’ve highlighted, the charm and detail of the Reed House are extensive—we could easily continue discussing the myriad of unique features, even having an entire separate folder of photos dedicated just to its captivating light fixtures! However, we will leave you with one final, unforgettable image:
